Obituary for Jay Dwight Baird

BAIRD, Jay Dwight – It is with deep sadness that the family of Jay Baird announces his peaceful passing at the Welland Hospital on Sunday April 1, 2018 in his 58th year. Cherished son of Halbert and Ronna Baird. Proud father of Philip and Melinda. Dear brother of Hal Baird (Barb), Tammy Baird and Kelly Godin (Steve Grondin). Uncle of Sarah Baird - Kearney (Brandon), Nicole deBoer (Justin), Laura McIntosh (David), Kerry Charette (Tyler), Stephanie and Grant Labelle, Kirstin and Hallie Godin and Noah and Hannah Grondin. He will be sadly missed by his dear friend Lydia Proulx. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Jay loved life. And in doing so, he knew that life is often best experienced when pushed to the limits, which he did. He also loved the outdoors, spending much of his time basking in it, fishing and hunting. Jay had a special and unique personality. During his life he was faced with many challenges and regardless he continued to stay positive, comfort those around him and keep his great sense of humor. For those who loved him, his death leaves a huge void, but he will forever live in their hearts and his legacy will live on.

The family invites relatives and friends to join them in honouring and celebrating Jay’s life at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Saturday, April 7th from 1 – 3 p.m. Following the visitation, all are invited to join the family at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #613, 141 Hwy 20 East, Fonthill, for a time of refreshments and continue to share in their memories of Jay.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Welland Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.

A heart-felt thank you to the nurses and staff from the I.C.U. at the Welland Hospital for their compassionate and exceptional care provided to Jay and his family.
