GOLDSMITH, James Arthur “Jim” – of Fonthill, passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family, following a brief battle with cancer, at the Welland Hospital, on Friday, March 2, 2018, in his 91st year. Predeceased by his wife, Norma Jean Kennedy, parents Arthur and Edith Goldsmith, siblings Fred Goldsmith and Joy Johnson. Beloved father of David Goldsmith (Sherry) of Ottawa, and Margaret “Maggie” Goldsmith (Peter Stumpf) of Buckhorn. Loving grandfather of Alexander Goldsmith (Claire Mahaffy) of Eganville, Benjamin & Matthew Goldsmith, and Timothy, Abygale, Duncan, & Sarah Stumpf. He is survived by siblings Jeanne (Bob Axford) of Windsor, Dick (Grace) and Larry (Bev) of Chatham, Mary Kaye (Jim Barby) of Waterloo, brother-in-law Jim Johnson of Ottawa, sister-in-law Florence Kennedy of Newmarket, and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Jim lived in various communities across Canada before settling in the Niagara region. A graduate of University of Toronto and Knox College, he was an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church in Canada and served congregations in St. Johns NFLD, Dartmouth NS, Burlington ON, Montreal West PQ, and Welland ON. Jim was a lifetime member of Rotary International as well as a Paul Harris Fellow. Friends are invited to visit with the family at H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland, on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Service to be held in Kirk-on-the-Hill Presbyterian Church 1344 Haist Street, Fonthill, on Saturday, March 10th at 11:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, the family encourages donations which follow the example of Jim’s broad philanthropy within the community.
