Obituary for Jessie Armstrong (McEwen)

ARMSTRONG, Jessie - Jessie Alice Armstrong, 93, of Welland, Ontario, died on Thursday, March 1, 2018, surrounded by her children, at the Extended Care Unit of the Welland Hospital. Born August 4, 1924 in Welland, she is predeceased by her parents Herbert and Jessie (Colquhoun) McEwen, her brother, Herbert McEwen and her late husband, William Armstrong, all of Welland.

Jessie worked at Smith's China and Toy Shop, the Welland Chamber of Commerce and Welland Hydro where she retired, but her passion was taking care of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, great aunt and great-great aunt. She had many friends and loved serving her community. She was a tireless volunteer with the Foundation Fighting Blindness (Retinitis Pigmentosis) and the Canadian Arthritis Association.
She was a dedicated member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Welland for 75 years, and a kind and giving person. She was in the choir and various women's groups, and volunteered her time, cooking and baking for the Open Arms Mission, bazaars and numerous other church events.

Survivors include daughters Nancy Alward of Welland and Jane Edmond of Pickering, Ontario, son Richard Armstrong of Welland, grandsons, William Alward of Welland and Callum Edmond of Pickering. She had seven nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Monday, March 5th from 2 -4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A Funeral service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 29 Bald Street, Welland on Tuesday, March 6th at 11:00 am.
