CAYER, Gemma - At the Welland Hospital on Thursday, July 6, 2017 in her 97th year. She was predeceased by Gerard, her beloved husband of 68 years. Loving mother of Andre (Carmen), Lise Earl (Paul), Doris and Lorraine DiIorio (Michael). Cherished grandmother of Julie Middleton (Rob), Anne Cayer (Ryan Thomas), Chrissy Dockrill (Mike), Kelly Flowers, Paul Earl Jr. (Lindsay), Cristina DiIorio and Mikey DiIorio and great grandmother of Lindsay, Ashley, Alyssa and Everett. Gemma was predeceased, as well, by her parents, one sister and three of her brothers. As a young woman she enjoyed skiing in the hills around her home in Montmagny, QC with friends from her ski club and she spent some summers working in the tobacco fields in Ontario. She worked for a number of years at Lanark Knitting in Dunnville after marrying Gerard and moving to Welland. Together they enjoyed many happy years socializing with their friends at the Welland Flying Club and then crisscrossing the continent in their motor home. The family would like to express their warmest thanks and gratitude to Dr. Whitehall and the staff of Northland Pointe for the excellent care and service given to Gemma during her years there. The family's thanks and gratitude also go to the 6th floor staff at the Welland Hospital for the kind and caring treatment of Gemma in her final days. Respecting Gemma’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. There will be a small private ceremony for immediate family members at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations in memory of Gemma may be made to Northland Pointe with cards available at the H. L.
