TIRONE, Leah Flora (nee Botari) – It is with great sadness but also with thanksgiving for a long and well lived life that we announce the peaceful passing of Leah Tirone on Friday, June 16, 2017 , two months shy of her 100th Birthday. Leah spent her final days surrounded by her loving family at her residence, Royal Rose Place in Welland. She is reunited with her beloved husband Stephen who predeceased her in 2009 and her daughter Diane Elizabeth. A dedicated and cherished mother to Linda Jackson (Alan), Marie Richardson (Mark), Susan Tirone, Laura Tirone and Thomas Tirone (Cathy). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brother-in-law Jim Tirone (Mary), sisters-in-law Lucy Kratz, Connie Tirone, Eva Falcone as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Predeceased by her siblings; Joe Botari (Theresa), Mary Sampson (Francis), Flavio Botari (Louise), Agnes Page (Arnold), Louis Botari (Clara) and many loving members of both the Botari and Tirone families.

Born in Welland in 1917, Leah remained a lifelong resident of the city. She was a wonderful cook, talented seamstress and milliner, having hand made many beautiful women’s hats for her girls throughout the years. Leah was an exceptional gardener and loved to spend time with her family at their cottage on Sunset Bay built by her father and brothers. She had so many wonderful qualities but her devotion to her family and her Church stand out and represents the foundation her family will build upon for generations to come. She was a lifelong and devoted member of St. Mary’s Church, the Catholic Women’s League and a past volunteer at the Extended Care Unit in Welland. She leaves behind a legacy of love, beauty and grace and she will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be held at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Tuesday, June 20th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Vigil Prayers to take place at 2 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 21st at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 90 Griffith Street, Welland beginning at 9:30 a.m. Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Very special thanks go out to the wonderful 'family' at Royal Rose Place in Welland. Leah had been a resident there for the past 8 months. Her last week was one of complete love and compassion and the care she received was exceptional. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests that memorial donations, in memory of Leah, may be made to St. Mary`s Church or to ONEFOUNDATION – Welland Site.
