Obituary for Mitch DeBlois

DeBlois, Mitch (Michel) – Surrounded by the love of his family, Mitch passed peacefully from this life in to the loving arms of his parents on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the age of 46. Beloved husband and best friend of Tina. Dear brother of Joanne Corbeil (Luc), Sylvia DeBlois (Murray Simkin) and brother-in-law of Barry Ward Jr. (Kelly) and Seth Ward (Lauren). Cherished son-in-law of Elaine Burns (Perry). Loving uncle of Roxanne (Bruce), Shane (Lakyn), Melanie, Sarah, Brenden, Hayden, Evie , Ava and great-uncle of Mackenzie and Bryce. Sadly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and his precious companions, his dogs Miekka and Mya-Mai. Predeceased by his parents Julien and Jocelyne DeBlois who both passed in 2016. Mitch was proudly employed for many years with Wainfleet Box and Pallets and he often referred to his boss, Dan D’Amico as a “second father”. He played select soccer in his youth and later played and refereed ball hockey. He was most proud of the years he was a part of the “L.A. Kings”. Mitch loved to travel and enjoyed the simple pleasures of a sunny beach and a cold beer. He was known for his mischievous sense of humour, his giving personality, and his tenacious spirit. Above all else, he adored his wife and never failed to show her how much he loved her every day. Mitch and Tina were high school sweethearts in 1985 who went on to share 24 years of marriage. Their love story was one to be admired, and stood the test of time. They supported each other completely and unselfishly through their lifetime together but especially during the last few years. Fueled by his never-ending love for Tina and his family, Mitch fought a courageous battle with a brain tumor for six years. His enduring determination to beat this disease never stopped and he fought to the bitter end. His courage and strength was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Respecting Mitch’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Thursday, May 18th from 5 – 8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, May 19th beginning at 10 a.m. Father Julien Beaulieu will celebrate the Funeral Service in the Cudney Chapel at 12 noon. A heartfelt thank you to our family, friends and neighbours who have journeyed with us over the last several years. Our sincere gratitude, also, to Dr. Hal Hirte and his team at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, nurse Jocelyn Molnar and the CCAC team, PSW Gisele Young, nurse Kelly Cianpa and to Dr. Scher and the palliative team at Port Colborne Hospital for providing Mitch and our family with guidance, compassion and professional care.
