JONES, Shirley Leone (B.A., B.L.S.) - Passed away peacefully at the Extended Care Unit of the Welland Hospital on Saturday, April 29, 2017 in her 88th year. Loving sister of Kathleen “Kaye” Jones and daughter of the late Truman and Ethel Jones. She will be lovingly remembered by her cousins from Toronto, Barrie and throughout Canada. Shirley was a graduate of Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick and the University of Toronto. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Shirley grew up in Cobourg, Ontario. She later moved to St. Catharines where she lived and worked before settling in Welland. She was the Chief Librarian for the Welland Public Library for many years. She was a member and former President of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Welland, a member and former President of the Welland Historical Society, a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society, member and counselor of the Ontario Library Association, member of the Canadian Library Association, member and former Treasurer of the University Women’s Club of Welland and a charter member of Wesley United Church. Reverend Kim Wright will conduct a Funeral Service at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Tuesday, May 2nd beginning at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior beginning at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Pleasantview Cemetery.
