Obituary for Ryan Gerald "The Grouch" Blanchard

BLANCHARD, Ryan Gerald “The Grouch” – It is with profound sadness that the family of Ryan Gerald Blanchard announces his sudden passing, at home, on Monday, March 27, 2017 in his 41st year. Proud and loving father of Elise. Beloved son of Brian and Sue Blanchard and grandson of Lorraine White and Bernice Blanchard. Cherished brother of Lee-Anne Blanchard (Aaron Smith), Dan Blanchard (Becky) and Sarah Blanchard (Vince Sorbara). Dear uncle of Victoria, Tristen and Meagan. Sadly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and his faithful, four legged companion “Rommie”. Predeceased by his grandfathers Henry White and Clarence Blanchard, his brother Sean Gamble and his great-niece Madison Blanchard. Ryan was born and raised in Welland where he attended Matthew’s School and Notre Dame. He was an avid hockey fan and earned the nickname “Red Light” when he played goalie for Welland Minor Hockey. Music was one of his greatest passions and he enjoyed many years working as a D.J. before becoming a Computer Tech. His stubborn and resilient nature was the big part of him that allowed him to get through whatever life threw his way. For the most part it was his way or the highway. He always faced his health issues with great courage and a radiant smile that never left him even on the darkest days. Ryan’s love for his family and dear friends will endure and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Thursday, March 30th from 4 – 7 p.m. The Venerable, Dr. John E. Course will conduct a celebration of Ryan’s life in the Cudney Chapel beginning at 7 p.m. A private family interment will be held at a later date. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the St. Joseph’s Healthcare – Transplant Unit.
