Obituary for Ellen Bisson (Neville)

BISSON, Ellen, Nellie- (January 11, 1923 – February 21, 2017) – After a long and happy life full of love from her family and friends, our special gal passed away peacefully at the wonderful age of 94. Our Ellen was the loving daughter of Frances (Nash) and Dennis Neville of St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Mom said that she had a wonderful childhood growing up on their farm with her sisters Kathleen and Edna and her brothers Richard and Robert. They worked in the fields growing their own food, riding dear Bess their gentle horse, and tobogganing on the hill on to frozen Neville’s Pond and picking berries on the way home from school. In the 1940’s she worked at garden parties and at Ayres and Son in St. John’s Harbour and then in Kitchener, Ontario for the war effort making gas masks and dinghies.
Later on, Ellen successfully ran our family business, Bisson Hardware in Port Colborne, Ontario. Then she worked at Canadian Tire in Welland in management and then at General Tire Rubber Company.
We, her children, Dan Bisson and Carol Ann (Basil) Della Valle were so blessed to have her for our mother. She always believed in us and encouraged us in everything we did. She would be at our front doorstep with a casserole when we needed her.
Gramma was so proud of her darlin’ grandsons David (Dawn), Adam and Brian Della Valle and Gramma Ellen treasured in her heart her great-grandsons Michael and Matthew.
Everyone who met her, loved her and the twinkle in her eyes ! especially her dear sisters-in-law Wilma Bisson and Violet Neville. Auntie Ellen –Aunt Nellie, was blessed with many nieces and nephews who brought her great joy, as she watched them grow to become fine adults.
A very special thank you to our dear Doyle cousins Barbara, Ralph and Ross who loved to challenge Aunt Ellen to a friendly game of Cribbage.
Mom, we’ll always remember the chickadees chirping for you to come out and feed them sunflower seeds from your hand.
A very special thank you to the staff at Albright Manor in Beamsville for their kindness and wonderful care of our special lady.
A funeral service will be held at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Saturday, February 25th at 11:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior, beginning at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow in the Cudney Lounge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in honor of our mom, to Albright Manor in Beamsville. Thank you Gram for being an encouraging example of quiet determination and selflessness. May you fly free like the chickadees
