Obituary for Ethel Anne Farnsworth (Hanson)

FARNSWORTH, Ethel Anne (nee Hanson) February 24, 1912 – December 18, 2016 – After 104 years we announce the passing of Ethel Farnsworth. Beloved matriarch of our family and daughter of the late William and Melissa Hanson. Ethel was the wife of the late Daniel Farnsworth for over 49 years. Survived by her son Daniel (Donna) and the late Larry (Cynthia). Grandmother of Karen O’Hagan (Peter) and their daughter Ainsley, Brian Farnsworth, Susan Farnsworth, Nadine Schmidt (David) and their children Paul, Mark, Amy Zavitz (Barry) and their children Elle, Alora and Gerald. Survived by her sister-in-law Bernice Hanson and her family, niece Valerie Brooks (late Walter), nephews Dale Sidey (Marsha), Don Sidey (Sue), Lorne Sidey (Jocelyn) and their families, nephews Gary Reeves and Robert Reeves (Marilyn) and their families. Predecesed by her brothers George, William, Robert, Howard, Kenneth and sisters Alice Reeves, Grace Sidey and Gertrude Hanson. Ethel’s life’s foundation was her faith in God as a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Church where she was a member of the ACW and the Altar Guild. She lived her life in service to others volunteering for the Welland and District Health Unit, Welland Sea Cadets, St. John’s Ambulance Corps, Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian Red Cross. In earlier years she was actively involved with Welland Minor Baseball and Welland Minor Hockey. Above all else, she dedicated her life to her family, and it is her legacy of love that will be remembered fondly and passed on by her children and grandchildren for generations to come. We take great comfort knowing that Ethel is now happily where she wanted to be, in the arms of her loving husband, Daniel. Although we will miss her terribly, her memory will live on forever in our hearts. The family will receive friends at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Wednesday, December 21st from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 77 Division Street, Welland on Thursday, December 22nd at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Fonthill Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Holy Trinity Church Memorial Fund or the Holy Trinity Food and Hygiene Bank would be appreciated.
